My appreciation for shooting stars came from my husband, Lee. He grew up on a farm in Tennessee and was surrounded nightly by a million twinkling lights. Being a city girl myself, I never looked at the dark sky without seeing the shine of a man-made light bulb.
I didn’t know what I was missing.
When we first met, Lee introduced me to the beautiful star-bangled sky with all its glory and mystery. Then it happened! I saw the streak of light that was unmistakably a shooting star. Oh MY word! Breathtaking, wonderful and sincerely awe-inspiring!!!
Then it was gone.
Life is just like the shooting star. It is brilliant for a time and then disappears.
Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. James 4:14
Unfortunately, most of us don’t think the way James encourages us to in the above scripture. Instead, we tend to believe we are immortal and will live forever (of course, that lasts until something bad happens). Sigh….
In addition, we buy into the lie that God is inconsequential and we can be our own god because we think we are the ones in control. NOT.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Psalms 8:3-4
God is waiting for us to place our life in His hands. He made the earth, the stars and He made US. Can you believe how amazing that is? The One who created shooting stars cares about little ole’ me and you!! Crazy! And TRUE!
Satan wants us to believe we aren’t good enough, not worthy and that God doesn’t care. BIG FAT LIE.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
So, the next time you see a starry sky, remember that the same God who made the stars, made you.
You are loved.
You are His.
And today is a great time to start shining brightly with His LOVE!!!
