Friend Picking

Writer's picture: meghays72meghays72

While reading my Facebook newsfeed this morning, I came across a title to a story that said, “Life is too short for crappy friends.”  BAHAHAHA!!  Completely made me laugh out loud!!!

Basically, the article was about how to teach our children to let go of those who are bad for us and to develop the relationships with those who are encouraging, loving and kind.

The message was tailored to teens, but I think as adults we need to be reminded often to always be kinds to others, but don’t actually spend too much time with those who are negative, pessimistic, cynical or harmful to our self-esteem, choice-making or character.

We really are who we hang out with.

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20

Yes, we need to help the least, lost and lonely.  However, that doesn’t mean we have to subject ourselves on a regular basis with those who bring us down or aren’t striving to be better people.

I’m always amazed and awed when I look at the characteristics of my list of besties.  They include:

  1. Strong

  2. Smart

  3. Entrepreneurial

  4. Kind

  5. Creative

  6. Resilient

  7. Powerful

  8. Passionate

  9. Dedicated

  10. Generous

Basically, my besties have the qualities that I aspire to achieve!!!  Strangely enough, I’ve always chosen strong women who make me better and I continue to be blessed with true friends who have some wonderful attributes!!

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

What are your friends like?  Do they make you want to be the best you can be?

They should!!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 27:17 – Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
