This time of year is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but for some it can be one of the worst…it all depends on what you are going through.
For me, eleven years ago, December 22nd was one of the most joyous occasions in my life because my sweet Jake came into the world and changed mine forever!
I was awed by God’s amazing gift and blessed to be a mom for the first time. Christmas that year was full of wonder, hope and love…definitely one for the books.
Jake was the best Christmas present EVER!
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Psalm 127:3
Who knew things could change so drastically after a few years.
Fast forward six years to 2010 and Christmas was sad and scary as I watched my dad suffer through his last days of life after battling mesothelioma for eighteen months. Strangely enough the wonder, hope and love were still there as I leaned on God to get me through this tragedy of life.
Christmas was way different that year and has subsequently changed all others since.
And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7
None of us will escape sadness, death, tragedy or misfortune. However, we must remember that the REASON for this season CAN change our hearts and transform our lives no matter what is happening in it!!!
All we have to do is look around and we will see the hardships that people face. Friends are diagnosed with cancer, children die in their sleep and marriages dissolve. So, how do we face the difficulties without losing the wonder, love and hope of life?
The short answer is…Jesus.
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
Jesus offers hope to a hopeless world full of horrible struggles and complicated troubles. His life and death don’t wipe out our tragic circumstances, but He promises so much more than earthly desires, dreams and wishes.
No matter what you are going through this Christmas, please remember that Jesus has overcome the world and His plan is way bigger than we could ever imagine.
Merry Christmas!
