There are days when your life flashes before your eyes and you realize how fortunate you are to still be breathing! Today was one of those days.
After school and the grueling homework of first grade – yes, sometimes it feels like torture – Chase (my six-year-old) went outside to play with friends. You can imagine my surprise when I soon after received a text from my neighbor.
“Chase just tested out a GFI outlet. Apparently, he stuck a key in one of the outlets outside. He’s fine, of course, but he probably won’t do that again.”
My heart stopped. My life up till now with Chase did a quick run through my brain. And my first thought was, “thank you, Jesus.”
Of course, my second thought was that I was going to kill him myself after I hugged him to death!!! I was more than happy to hand him over to Dad, the Electrical Engineer, for a lengthy discussion on the workings of electricity!!! CRIMENY!
Now, it’s no shocker that my first thought was to thank Jesus, as it isn’t anything out of the ordinary for my daily life. However, today it meant so much more…here’s why.
Earlier in the day, I was driving home from the grocery store jamming to my music and basically acting a fool like normal, when I suddenly felt the need to shut off the tunes and pray for protection.
And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:9-13
This urge came as no surprise because I thought it was an overflow from watching a movie about a serial killer last night. I tend to become ONE with the movies I watch and it’s very hard for me to stop thinking about them after the fact. I am a perfect example of someone who should never watch intense or scary movies!
However, now I KNOW it was a ‘push’ from the Holy Spirit to cover my baby in prayer!! Indeed, I was allowed to see a miracle. And I’ve never been so grateful for being obedient as I am today!!
Thank you, Jesus!
It’s easy to forget or maybe just ignore the miracles that happen every day. We get so caught up in our ‘to do list’ that we miss out on the actual ‘living’ part. If we will listen to God’s leading (this is a moment by moment basis) we will see His fingerprints all over our daily lives.
Today, once again, made me a believer that prayer is necessary. I’m already passed the moment of fear I felt because I’m so excited that I got to see God’s Hand in my life today. He’s there every day, but today I noticed!!!
Do you listen to God’s leading? Chase is living proof that you should!
Thank you, Jesus!!!
Some Wisdom for Today: Proverbs 15:29 – The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
