The longer I live the fewer promises I make. It’s not that I don’t want to commit, it’s that I don’t want to BREAK any promises. I have found that promises are near and dear to me and I just cannot stand the thought of my word meaning nothing because I was foolish enough to promise something I couldn’t keep.
I’m not sure when I realized this lack of promise making in my life, but I would dare to guess it’s been since I’ve been habitually reading scripture. The Bible is full of God’s promises.
By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 2Peter 1:4
What if God was as flippant with His promises as we are with ours? OUCH!!!!
That would just stink!!!! Thank you, God for not lying!!!
In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began…. Titus 1:2
Here are just a few promises that God and His son, Jesus, make us:
God promises to never forsake (abandon or reject) us. Hebrews 13:5
God promises to take care of us. Matthew 6:25-34
God promises to forgive us if we confess to Him. 1John 1:9
Jesus promises to save us. Romans 10:9
God promises us an escape from temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13
God promises to bless us if we bless others. Luke 6:38
Jesus promises us God’s peace. Philippians 4:7
God will instruct us and teach us how to live. Psalms 32:8
God will strengthen us. Psalms 27:14
God promises that the good guy wins in the end! Revelation 12:10
It’s easy to get caught up with the evils and temptations of this world. It’s even easier to get depressed over all the bad news that smacks us upside the head on a daily basis. And don’t get me started on all of the hardships, tragedies, death and destruction that each of us has seen our lives or in the lives of others!!!
HOWEVER, putting our faith in THIS world is just foolish because God promises us eternity in His Kingdom if we will place our lives in His hands.
Sure, we probably won’t be walking on Easy Street for the rest of our lives, but we will NOT BE ALONE, either! I mean…come on…our companion is GOD!!!
That is an awesome promise!!!
So, when you make a promise in the future…make sure you are going to keep it!!! We want and expect God to keep His, therefore, we should make good on ours, too!!!
Some Wisdom for Today: Proverbs 16:7 – When a man’s ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
