Our Purpose Today

“God’s purpose is greater than our problems, our pain and even our sin.” Rick Warren

Unfortunately, many of us focus way too much on our problems, pain and sin to really ever see God’s purpose for our lives.

I know I’ve talked about purpose until I’m blue in the face, but I think it’s worth repeating because so many of us either lack it or long for it.  Either way, our purpose isn’t being met and we are not feeding our souls.

So, the question today is whether or not you are joyful with where you are right now…this day…this moment?  Would you be okay with dying today because you fulfilled your purpose yesterday?

If the answer is a big YES, bravo to you!  If not, you are not alone.

Our lack of contentment points mainly to the absence of God’s purpose in our lives.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

We get distracted with daily life and refrain from asking God to actually lead us in throughout our day.  We waste precious time dawdling the time away instead of making the difference we were born to do because God isn’t the one guiding our thoughts, words and actions.

I think I write so much about our life’s purpose because I’m searching for my own.  I see others who love to get up in the morning and enjoy their work and I wonder…what the heck is wrong with me?

I’m definitely that person who spends too much time standing on the edge of the cliff watching everyone else flying through the air!!  Clearly, they know that God will open their parachute, but why don’t I?

Once in a while I will get a wild hair and jump off the cliff into a life of purposeful action.  However, it’s usually not too long until I’m grabbing onto the edge and pulling myself to safety.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? Psalm 56:3-4

Where does my trusting heart go?  It’s definitely not nestled safely in the hands of my Savior…or maybe it is?

Just maybe these times of anxiety are to not only remind me how great my God is for saving me from myself, but also to help me remember I cannot do this thing called life on my own!

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. Psalms 138:8

I know He will not forsake me because He says so, but that has nothing to do with teaching me lessons along the way that might be unwanted and uncomfortable.

The fear and anxiety I feel come from the one who is lying to me about the power of God.  The prince of the world wants us to be paralyzed with worry so that we nudge God aside and tell Him, “we’ve got this.”

These are the times that should find us kneeling at the foot of our Heavenly Father with gratitude that we don’t have to live this life on our own, nor for our own little reasons.

God’s purpose is grandiose and will knock our plans out of the park if we will just let Him, but we have to wait for His timing!!!

Will you get out of the way long enough to accomplish God’s goals today?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 16:4 – The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
