Get Out There!

Many of us aspire to do, be and have more in the days ahead.  It’s common for most of us (at any age) to have dreams and goals.  We may not have them written down, but I would dare say that we each have an item or two tucked in a corner somewhere that we wish to accomplish one day.Our ambitions and desires do not make us different from anyone else on the planet – accomplishing them does.

Unfortunately, lip service doesn’t get anything done.  Wishing and hoping doesn’t either.  I should know because I’m an expert!

It’s only when we take action and get out there that things happen, lives change and success is achieved.  Failure will occur, as well.  However, our blunders are an opportunity to learn from our mistakes, change course and try again.

For example, there is a promo on the NFL Channel for A Football Life – Michael Strahan, one of my favorite all-time defensive players from the New York Giants, which has Michael saying that his football career almost didn’t happen because he wanted to quit.  WHAT?!?!!  I’m SO gonna have to watch that show to find out why (it’s scheduled for some time this week).

At any rate, if it wasn’t for Michael’s grandiose personality on the football field, he wouldn’t be sitting in the co-host seat with Kelly Ripa every Monday thru Friday and making me laugh on a regular basis.  Ohhhh, the world would have missed a great one if Michael had not gotten out there!

But he did.

Just like Michael, we all have that decision to make of whether we forge ahead through the fear or quit before we even get started?  Do we get out there and take chances or do we settle for living behind the obstacle of fear?

But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you. Isaiah 43:1-3

Fear doesn’t just affect our career choices, either.  The fact is that we may fear:

  1. Following God because we are scared of where He might lead us.

  2. Helping someone less fortunate because they might become too needy and we’ll be stuck.

  3. Committing to a monthly tithe because we might not have enough to pay the bills or do what we want.

  4. Signing up to volunteer because we might not be good enough or have the right skills.

  5. Sharing our talents because there are others that are better and we might look dumb.

  6. AND THE LIST GOES ON….

The only cure for these fears is to ACT.  We must rely on God to lead us and we must GET OUT THERE and forget about failing or our fears.  Moreover, we’ve already failed if we DON’T take the first step.  Hmmm….

As much as I would love it, dreams aren’t accomplished by sitting on the couch watching football.  Bummer….

Dreams, hopes and aspirations are great; but, without action, they mean nothing.

Who cares if we fail?  We might learn something.  We might help someone.  And we might feel better about ourselves because we actually TRIED.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Psalms 34:4

Don’t quit guys!  Ask for God’s help and go for it!  Whatever it is that you’ve been thinking about doing…GET OUT THERE AND DO IT! You won’t be disappointed that you did!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 29:25 – The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.
