Father

Father’s Day is Sunday! (In case you had forgotten)

I feel so fortunate that God gave my children such an awesome dad.  As I prepare to celebrate my husband and pay homage to the fantastic job he is doing with our children, I can’t help but feel the hole in my heart that has been left with the passing of my own dad in 2010.

I was blessed with the gift of 37 years, but oh, how I miss my dad.

I’d like to share what I wrote two years ago on the last Father’s Day I was able to spend with my dad.  It warms my heart to remember him fondly and how blessed I was to have such a wonderful example.

The truth is – I don’t want to talk about how great you are once you are gone.  I want to praise you and adore you during this Father’s Day, as it is one of our last.  God has blessed me with a wonderful father who loves his girls and has done his very best for each one of us.  Dad, you’ve been my rock and my cheerleader throughout my life.  I come to you for comfort, love and advice.  You have believed in me and encouraged me.  You have challenged me and forgiven me.   You have always been there.   You have taught me about life and how to deal with discouragement and failure.  You have shown me how to succeed and how to give back to those less fortunate.  You have given me eternal life by teaching me about Jesus and His grace.  You teased and joked and laughed and cried with me.  You have welcomed my husband and cherished my children.  You have become my friend. Sadness and fear will not rule the day. I will not be consumed by all the dismay The thought of the end makes me weak in the knees Will you stay here awhile longer, Oh Dad, if you please? Your strength and your courage speak so loud and clear. Your silence says volumes of what you hold dear. This pain and this suffering will not define our time Laughter and jokes aren’t committing a crime. We watch and we weep in silence, you see. For the end isn’t far when God sets you free.

I know my dad is with God today and it gives me peace.  Whatever your own ather ‘situation’ this year, I pray that you will find comfort in a Heavenly Father who loves you, provides for you and gives you grace.

Happy Father’s Day!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 1:8-11 – Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.
