Tomorrow marks the end of fourth and second grades for my two kiddos!! WOOHOO!
I’m so excited to sleep in a little later each morning and completely mortified that I’m going to have to entertain these boys for the next three months!! YIKES!
I see lots of pool time in our future…aw, shucks!
This past school year has been an adventure to behold as we’ve navigated the rough terrain of figuring out how our boys learn best and how to teach them to be good Christian men.
It’s not been an easy journey and it’s long from over.
The lesson this year has been that, as parents, we have an awesome (in this case, I mean HUGE) responsibility for our children’s development, education, attitudes and behavior.
Not that I didn’t already know that this was my job as a parent, but the magnitude of this duty has been placed at the tip of my nose and I’m now very aware of how much I need God’s help – as usual – in this endeavor.
Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death. Proverbs 19:18
Each of these little guys has a personality of their own and what bothers one might not bother the other and vice versa. It’s a toss-up on how to manage them individually so that they have the tools they need to succeed in life.
Okay, I only have two. I can’t imagine the saga I’d be living with more. God sure did know what I could handle and what I could not!!!
The beautiful piece to this story is that I’ve learned way more from them then I could ever imagine teaching them.
For example, they look at life with awe and wonder and excitement. They love easily, forgive fast and it’s all about the here and now.
We all sure could learn from their example.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
You don’t even have to be a parent to learn from the little ones in this world.
Children show us why it’s so important to be a good example for the world around us. They soak up everything they see and hear and then reflect these patterns in their behavior, therefore, demonstrating where we could use a little more work.
It breaks my heart to see the kind of damage that can be done in such a short period of time.
If you ever wonder if your words or actions mean anything, just look at child. You will find out pretty quick that there are consequences to our conduct – right or wrong.
We should each seriously consider how we are affecting the world, and moreover, the children that have been placed in our care.
There is no room for selfishness and laziness. The time is now and our future depends on us.
Some Wisdom for Today: Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
