Fit and Trim

How are those health and fitness goals you made around the New Year?  Have you kept up the routine or have you fallen into the same old, same old?  Are you happy with your choices of food and have you continued with a daily dedication to an exercise routine?  OR are you wondering what in the world happened to the last six months?

All in all, I’m in shock and horror that it’s the end of June ALREADY!!!  Sigh.

Clearly, we are smack dab in the middle of bathing suit season, so the mirror shows no mercy and the habits of the past can haunt us terribly (mine looks like a spare tire around my waist).

BUT take heart…we can make a change today!  Plus, God makes it very clear that we are to keep our bodies healthy and fit – not to look a certain way, but because we are His.

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” – 1Corinthians 3:16-17

Regardless of what you’ve done in the last six months, it’s time to revisit, review and revise our strategies for getting fit and healthy and ultimately staying that way!!  This is not time for a band-aid, it’s time to make a change that we will stick with for the rest of our lives.

It makes no difference what size we wear or the number on the scale – what matters is the decision to make a commitment to being the healthiest we can be because we are loved by an Almighty Father who only wants what is best for each of us.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. …” Matthew 6:25-34

Making healthy choices gives us the energy to do the work God intends for us to do (see Ecclesiastes 12:13).  That means making beneficial selections day-in and day-out so that we are at the top of our game.

Certainly, there will be those occasions to celebrate with a piece of cake or ice cream, but those should be the exception and not the rule.  It basically comes down to the DESIRE to be the healthiest you.

Don’t get me wrong…I totally understand that we live in a society of quick, easy meals and snacks to get us to the next moment.  However, with a little research, wise decision-making and planning we can make the necessary changes to help us reach our God-intended weight.

With this in mind, be on the outlook for a new blog (name and release date are still TBD) all about fitness, healthy eating and motivation techniques.  I hope you will prayerfully consider taking a renewed look at where your health should be on your priority list and make changes as necessary.

We are each worth the time and effort to get ourselves in tip-top shape!  Here is why:

  • “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1Corinthians 10:31
  • “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.“ Romans 12:1
  • “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” Galatians 6:7-8

There are no quick fixes or miracle diets.  Changes take time and we each have to discover what our bodies need to be in good working-order. Mine will be different than yours and so forth.

In fact, when it comes right down to it, it’s not about what we eat or drink at all.  The point is being obedient to the One who made us and loves us (see Genesis 1:27).  It is our responsibility to make wise decisions in everything we do as followers of Christ, including what we put into our bodies.

Placing God in charge of our health and fitness is the first step and TODAY is a great day to start!!

Are you ready and willing?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 3:7-8 – Do not be wise in your eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.  This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

This one comes at the perfect time! Bathing suit season is now, and I’m not quite feeling “cute” never the less “firm and tight” in mine. Thanks for your words of encouragement and wisdom. Those that say the bible is antiquated and doesn’t relate to today, obviously hasn’t read it!

Loved this post!! Recently made changes to what I eat and have seen the proof that God honors obedience. My kids put in the simplest terms when they said, “Mommy, you seem happier and are much nicer these days!” What can I say but, out-of-the-mouths-of-babes!!! Thanks kids, I love you, too!!!!!! 😉
