Recruitment from the Pit

How often do you think you aren’t good enough?

In a society that compares itself and each other constantly to super models, TV characters, rock stars and the wealthiest people of the world; it’s not astonishing that we fail to measure up on a regular basis.

Sigh….

The list of reasons to think we fall short is endless, but the truth remains the same…GOD LOVES YOU, PERIOD END OF STORY.

In fact, most of the time God uses the weak to lead the strong and show His awesome power through our shortcomings.  I think that’s pretty cool!

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

The following quote that I found on Facebook sums it up perfectly:

God found Gideon in a hole.  He found Joseph in a prison.  He found Daniel in a lion’s den.  He has a curious habit of showing up in the midst of trouble, not the absence.  Where the world sees failure, God sees future.  Next time you feel unqualified to be used by God remember this, He tends to recruit from the pit, not the pedestal. – Author Unknown (found on Facebook)

Although we don’t measure up, our striving to do God’s Will should not be deterred.

This is where I think it’s important to remember that trying to please God is way different than trying to attain His Grace.  The latter is His gift to us that cannot be earned and the former is our gift to Him.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God…. Ephesians 2:8

We desire to walk with God because we love Him, not because we think it can in any way change our salvation.

The cool thing about being one of the least, lost and lonely ones is that God can use our situation to bring Him Glory.  It’s His amazing way of telling us that even when our lives are downright awful, we can be used in a mighty and wonderful way.

Don’t know about you, but God continually recruits me from the pit.  Every time I’m in a place of desperation, He wraps me in His loving arms and encourages me to continue down His path.

To this point:  I was just discussing my need of a savior with a friend of mine who struggles with self-righteous Christians.  I told her that I cannot be one of those because I have nothing to be self-righteous about and neither does anyone else!!!  All you have to do is look at my daily life and you will find pretty quickly that I need all the forgiveness, grace and mercy I can get!!!!

What does yours look like?

Life is full of mystery, but the guesswork should never include whether our lives matter or if we are good enough.

Our lives do matter.  And they matter to the Almighty Creator.  We are good enough, because Jesus died for us!

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

How awesome is that?!?!?!

Don’t let your pit get you down.  Take a moment to look up and ask God what He wants you to do, ask for peace while doing it and ask God to use you for His Glory.

You just can’t go wrong asking God to direct the course of your life.  Again, it may not be easy, but it will always be worth it!!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 12:11 – Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.
