Friends

Friends are worth more than any money could ever buy. I know this because of personal experience throughout my life.

I can honestly say that I would not be the person I am today without the wise counsel, kindness, and love of several people that have been my friends along my journey.

They have encouraged and supported me in the hard times and celebrated with me in the mountain top moments.

Each friend has brought something unique into my life and has helped me grow, learn and push myself to be the best I can possibly be.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Jesus is the best example of what a friend looks like.

He loved his friends, he wept with and for his friends, he rebuked his friends when they were being stupid and he urged his friends to be better than they had been.

No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:15

Jesus was a good friend; therefore, he had good friends.

Yes, they had faults and were crappy friends at times, but overall, 11 of those disciples loved Jesus, followed Jesus, trusted Jesus and some even gave their life for believing in Jesus.

I am encouraged greatly that Jesus loved his friends even though they were far from perfect. Especially since I lack in so many ways and definitely could be a better friend on many occasions. Sorry friends!

However, Jesus can and wants be OUR friend, too. In fact, Jesus offers this special and rare relationship to each and every one of us. All we have to do is accept him as our Lord and Savior.

As the bestest (not a word, but I love it!) friend we could ever wish for, Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. He will comfort us in our pain, love us even when we are unlovable, forgive us when we turn our backs on him and most importantly, he gave his life for us even while we were still sinners.

Do you have good friends? Are you a good friend? Is Jesus your friend?

Unfortunately, I am rarely a great friend to Jesus and don’t treat him as I do my earthly friends. I guarantee I would have an amazing relationship with Jesus if I more often than not…

  • Talked to him often.
  • Asked for guidance.
  • Shared all the good, bad and ugly.
  • Wept with him.
  • Laughed with him.
  • Celebrated with him.
  • Listened to him.

We can all be better friends. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we started with Jesus??

Some Wisdom for Today: Proverbs 18:12 – A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
