Change

103Last week’s sermon focused on who we are and who we want to be and this week’s sermon discussed the change we commit to making through baptism…I definitely needed to hear both of them, as usual.

So, what do both of these sermons have in common?

Change.  And that is exactly what I’ve done recently.

As of this week, I am staying at home with my boys and focusing on my writing instead of working eight to five in the corporate environment.  Scary stuff!

On one hand, I’m back to square one since I only took this job back in August.  On the other hand, I have a better understanding for mothers who work full-time while trying to keep it all together.

Let me tell you…KUDOS to those ladies!!!  And for the record…I suck at it!

An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. … Proverbs 31:10-31

One of the many signs I saw that led me to make a change was when I was asked to write my top goals for 2016.  I realized my top two priorities (besides God) – family and writing – hadn’t been concentrated on since I started my full-time job.  EEK!

After lot of deliberation, I finally opened my eyes and fell to my knees to ask God what direction I should take to change these terrible disconnects in my life.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

What I found was that my job wasn’t so that I could put food on the table, but to stroke Meg’s ego and make her feel worthy.

Hmmm…worthiness and ego or family and writing?

Clearly, it wasn’t a difficult decision.

The hard part isn’t quitting the job; it’s DOING something with the CHANGE!

So, here I am on my first day off getting the boys off to school and writing a GEM.  It feels fabulous, but scary, too.

I am blessed to have this opportunity and I can only pray that I will DO what God wants me to do with it.  I don’t want to squander the time or miss the chance to really make a difference in this world – whether it is with my kiddos or through my writing.

The doing is always much harder than actually committing to change because it takes action, effort, focus, determination and motivation.

Most of us would rather just complain, rationalize why we can’t or take the easy path.

That would be me!!!!  Sad, but true.

It’s time we get out of our own way and start following God’s plan for our life journey.  Not only will we be more fulfilled, but we will have made a difference in the lives of those around us!!

What change do you need to make?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 18:15 – An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

So proud of you! It takes courage to follow the road less traveled. But oh, the difference it makes.
