Thinking VS Doing

IMG_0384Did you know there is a difference between thinking about doing something and actually doing it?

This may sound ridiculous, but it made a ton of sense this past Sunday when my pastor asked how many of us thought about reading the Bible and then asked how many of us actually DO IT.

The number of hands that went down after she asked the second question was significant.  It’s also one of the reasons why many of us can talk the talk, but can’t walk the walk of Christ…because we really don’t know what the walk is.

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! … Psalm 119:1-5

Reading the Bible isn’t about getting to know the list of rules we have to follow.  It’s about getting to know our Heavenly Father and learning WHO HE WANTS US TO BE.

However, if we go through life never reading God’s Word, sure we can still see His creation, but we will never know His heart.

Basically, if we love God, we will want to follow His way and to know His way, we must read His Word.

And what do I think His Way is, you ask?

Well, Jesus said it perfectly in the Gospel of Mark, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Now, I wouldn’t know this unless I actually opened up the Bible!  Sounds silly, but it’s the truth!

Not only does the Bible offer wisdom and knowledge, but it also offers a look into the heart of God that we would not know if we don’t study His Word.

Additionally, the Bible provides insight into what we need to do in our own lives to live purposeful and joyful lives that God planned for us.

Honestly, it just makes sense to open the Bible and read it on a daily basis to become the people God created us to be.

Soooo, are you just thinking about it or are you doing it?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 3:1-5 – My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. …
