It’s Been Twenty Years!

IMG_0014Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. Corinthians 13:4-8

Today, Lee and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary!

Unbelievable!  And, yes, I was a child-bride!!  I sure don’t feel old enough to have married for 20 years.  YIKES!

I have no doubt that our union was a match made in heaven because we would have surely killed each other by now if it wasn’t!!  Hee, hee!!!

Actually, I do believe that Lee was chosen by God specifically for me.

IMG_0013The reason I know this to be true is because I remember vividly asking God in the summer of 1991 to keep all boys away from me unless it was my husband-to-be.  And in walked Lee…crazy!!

I then remember another prayer in 1995 where I asked God to have Lee break up with me if he was not the one God had chosen for me because at that point I was head-over-heals in love and I couldn’t trust my own emotions to make a wise decision if it wasn’t going to include Lee.

That weekend, Lee asked me to marry him…sweet!

We were married two months later in front of our parents and the minister at my parent’s home on the lake.  Nothing big, nothing fancy…but, a whole lot of love!

The prayers didn’t stop there.  In fact, I have faithfully asked God to lead our marriage because I know how fast I can ruin a good thing!  Thankfully, God has been gracious and kind and has pulled us through the good, bad and ugly!

I’m sure Lee would say I can be pretty ugly!!!

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” Psalms 126:2

Some good advice I got early on was when someone told me a long time ago that if I had five horrible years in a 50 year marriage that I was doing pretty good.

This comment really put life into perspective for me because it made me realize that all trials will fade and everything does eventually get better no matter what it feels like at the time.

Additionally, God is the one who can free us from our pain, sadness, and such if we will ask Him for help.

We don’t have a secret to making our marriage work.  However, I think with God in our lives and a “no quit” attitude, we have had a much easier time than some.

photo(17)I can only pray that God will bless us with many, many more years to love, laugh, fight and make-up!!

There is no doubt that I love this man with my mind, heart and soul.  Lee makes me a better person and I am blessed beyond measure to have him as my partner-in-crime!!

I love you, Lee!!  Happy Anniversary!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 15:15 – All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.
