Knowing Jesus

photo (3)Quote of the week, “it’s one thing to know there is an emperor; it’s another thing to know the emperor” – I have no clue who should be credited for this, but I heard it in Sunday’s sermon.  Grrrr….Google doesn’t know everything.  Haha!!

The question I have for you today is, “What does your relationship with Jesus look like?”

In this case, Jesus is our emperor.  Do you know the “emperor”?

I think we could talk all day about who Jesus is, what he did, how he did it, why he did, where he did it and who he did it with…BUT, the real question is who is he to YOU?

This subject weighs heavy on my mind because of the following verse:  You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! James 2:19

We can give Jesus and God lip service all day long, but if we don’t develop a personal relationship with them, what good is all of our chatter?  Hmmm….

Of course, we should keep in mind that every relationship takes time, effort and will change over the years.

The point is that we have to take the action necessary to cultivate a relationship with Jesus.

Think about your spouse or your best friend.  Those relationships took time, they continue to take effort and they most certainly change as we get older, wiser and a little more humble each day.

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

It’s the same way with Jesus, except He loves us more than any spouse or friend could.  Heck, he died for us!!

Another thing to keep in mind is that God and Jesus don’t want to be our Number One priority.  They want to be our ALL.

I heard a great analogy of this at bible study.  Let’s say my husband said, “Meg you are my Number One, but my Number Two would be Christine and my Number Three would be Sandy, Number Four would be Wendi, and so on….”

Uhhh…that wouldn’t work for me and I bet doesn’t work so well with God.

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16

If we aren’t striving to live a life pleasing to God and to live out His purpose than we really aren’t living at all.  In fact, we are settling for something worse than second best.

I often wonder why I am so dense to want to do things MY WAY when I have a loving God and Son of God who know what is best for me and want the best for me.  Oh for the love!!!

It’s so hard to get it right sometimes!  However, that’s where God wants us.  He wants us to give it ALL to Him so that He can bring us through HIS WILL, which is unsurpassed!!

How are you going to strengthen your relationship with Jesus today?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 15:8 – The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.
