Contagious Encouragement

encouraging others quote2Listening to Christian radio yesterday as I sped down the highway to get to church on time (there’s something wrong with that), I heard the coolest phrase – Contagious Encouragement.

As someone who is all about encouraging others, I found this phrase to be a perfect fit for what I would love to do in this life and I would love for others to follow suit.

Sure, I want to inspire people to be whom God made them to be every day, but it would be even better if they took that encouragement and paid it forward to others and so on.

Basically, each one of us could cause a ripple effect of encouragement.  How cool would that be?!?!?!

Our outlook on life would be different, our attitudes would be better and our days would be filled more than the lackluster entertainment, scary media images and the painful existence that many face each day.

Encouragement gives hope and hope gives new life!

encouraging others quote3We all are well aware that life can be hard, crappy and unfair.  But, dwelling on the negative will change nothing and get us nowhere…except down in a deep hole of despair.

That’s absolutely no good and I want more.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

The Bible tells us not to worry a gazillion times.  Okay, maybe not a gazillion, but I could certainly fill up several blogs with the verses that instruct us not to worry.

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad. Proverbs 12:25

There are several reasons that God nixes worry off our daily “to do” list.

  1. Worry doesn’t accomplish anything.
  2. Worry can make us sick – mentally, emotionally, and physically.
  3. Worry says we don’t trust God.

encouraging others quoteJust as encouragement can be contagious, so can negativity, pessimism and worry.

It’s no wonder that when I looked up ‘negativity’ in my thesaurus that the words that popped up included; unconstructiveness, unhelpfulness, pessimism, disapproval and lack of enthusiasm.

WOW!  That says a ton about how damaging being negative can be!!!

Encouraging or damaging…we choose which one we are going to be on a daily basis.

And life as a whole can be very contagious!!  For example, if we surround ourselves with good, Godly people, we find ourselves wanting to serve others and live to a higher standard.  The same goes for if we associate with shady characters.  The longer we stay in the dark, the more likely we will do, say or behave in the same ways.

What kind of qualities are we spreading to the people closest to us?

Are we infecting others with worry, fear and anxiety?  Or are we imparting encouragement that gives the world hope of a Savior?

Don’t be fooled, we are doing one or the other, so double-check which one you are doing today!!!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 30:5 – Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
