When the Going Gets Tough

024When hard times make an appearance in your life, do you:

  1. Complain?
  2. Hide?
  3. Get angry?
  4. Retaliate?
  5. Calmly evaluate the situation, ask God for guidance and proceed with His Plan?

If you picked “e”, you are WAY ahead of the rest of us!!!  Congrats on such maturity, wisdom and self-control!!!

However, if you are like the rest of humankind, you may have chosen any of the other options and may even have combined a few…or all, depending on the bad situation you find yourself in!!  YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. Psalm 3:3-4

As seen in the above Psalm – God is our protector, no matter what circumstance we face.

The problem is that many of us have a great tendency to become impatient, self-righteous or angry when we meet difficulty.  These are natural tendencies, but not those that we should practice.

Immediately reacting to our circumstances will get us nowhere.  In fact, making rash decisions or having an angry outburst will more than likely get us in hotter water.  Hate when that happens!!

God tells us over and over again to CHILL OUT and TRUST HIM!!!

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me. Psalm 50:15

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. Deuteronomy 31:8

Clearly, from the above scriptures we can and should TRUST God to lead us through whatever life sends our way.  BUT…don’t miss the fact that God DOES expect us to do our part, too.  This would be:

  1. Stand firm with TRUTH
  2. Be ready with PEACE
  3. Take up the shield of FAITH
  4. Hold onto our SALVATION through Christ
  5. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!!!!

(See Ephesians 6:13-18)

Personally, I can’t get through a day without God!!!  He truly is my ROCK!  Plus, I’m SO thankful He continues to teach me how to rely on Him and to lead me through the good and bad days (especially since I’m not always the quickest learner!!).

When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us. –Helen Keller

Don’t waste another day wallowing in despair!!  Pray for God to show you the doors that are waiting for you to pass through!!

Be tough!  Get GOING!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 28:13 – Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
