Priority Management

053Keeping my priorities straight is one of my most difficult daily tasks.  Often, I find myself off of the beaten path and have no clue how I got there.  Sigh.

I absolutely despise that this happens as frequently as it does!!!  What is even more frustrating is when I ‘forget’ what my priorities are in the first place!!!

Between a busy life, a double-whopping of selfishness and general fatigue from burning the candle at both ends…I time and again abandon the important things in life and replace them with stupid stuff.

Get a clue, Meg!!!

In my head and heart, my priorities should always be in the following order:

  1. God
  2. Family
  3. Job
  4. Everything else

Funny, how number four creeps into the cracks and crevices of life and ultimately takes over on a regular basis.

Things replace people.  Money replaces true living. Meg replaces God.  Not good on any account!

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.  Ecclesiastes 5:10

Being careful of what takes precedence in our lives can keep us out of harms’ way and can secure us on the correct path towards true fulfillment.  Face it, we all want to be satisfied with our lives and feel like our lives mean something.

Unfortunately, the world tells us to go after a life that is easy and filled to the brim with what money can buy and steeped in pleasures of the flesh.

Conversely, God tell us to fill our lives with HIM and we will find satisfaction like no other.

The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. Psalm 145:15-16

We could save ourselves a TON of stress, self-loathing and disappointment if we would realize that keeping our priorities straight is a life long struggle and a big part of the journey, instead of thinking that once we set our priorities they will automatically stay that way!!  There are no quick trips to a long-term destination!!

God’s handbook of life (aka. The Bible) is the key to learning how to keep our focus on what really matters and how to structure our lives accordingly.

I’ve found that summer can throw me off of my priority list in a heartbeat!!  It should be no shocker considering schedules get out of whack, kids need more of our time and the long list of To Do’s that forever builds and never shortens!

The best thing we can do is sit down, take a deep breath and ask God to take over.  When we ask God to fill our days with His Will and to arrange our lives His Way…everything else really does fall into place!

I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.  Psalm 16:8-11

Do you need to re-prioritize??

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 19:23 – The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.
