Happy Father’s Day

IMG_0398Father’s Day is now a bittersweet day for me.

Don’t get me wrong.  I love celebrating my husband and showering him with love, gifts and cards because he is an awesome dad.  The problem lies in the fact that he is not my father.  And mine is gone.  Sigh.

So, I’m going to re-post the journal entry that I wrote on our last Father’s Day together in 2010 because I knew it was the last when I wrote it and it means so much to me.  I was blessed to be able to spend Father’s Day with him that year.

I thank God every day for my dad and for all of the things he taught me.  There will never be another one like Ken Morgan!!!

FATHER’S DAY 2010

The truth is – I don’t want to talk about how great you are once you are gone.  I want to praise you and adore you during this Father’s Day, as it is one of our last.  God has blessed me with a wonderful father who loves his girls and has done his very best for each one of us.  Dad, you’ve been my rock and my cheerleader throughout my life.  I come to you for comfort, love and advice.  You have believed in me and encouraged me.  You have challenged me and forgiven me.   You have always been there.   You have taught me about life and how to deal with discouragement and failure.  You have shown me how to succeed and how to give back to those less fortunate.  You have given me eternal life by teaching me about Jesus and His grace.  You teased and joked and laughed and cried with me.  You have welcomed my husband and cherished my children.  You have become my friend.

Sadness and fear will not rule the day.

I will not be consumed by all the dismay

The thought of the end makes me weak in the knees

Will you stay here awhile longer, Oh Dad, if you please?

Your strength and your courage speak so loud and clear.

Your silence says volumes of what you hold dear.

This pain and this suffering will not define our time

Laughter and jokes aren’t committing a crime.

We watch and we weep in silence, you see.

For the end isn’t far when God sets you free.
