Summertime

IMG_0247Summertime is fun.  It’s full of awesome outdoor activities, great sun tans, less make-up, less clothes, later bedtimes, sleeping in and a little bit of lazy!  What’s not to like?

For me…it’s always been just a bit stressful.

Of course, kids add a new dimension with activities and entertainment, but they also get bored easily and fight when they get tired.  It’s draining and nerve-racking.  Did I hear it was 5 o’clock somewhere?!?!!

The worst part for me is that I’ve had two major accidents during the summertime and I get a little freaked out during this time of the year.

I know, I know…it was a long time ago and it’s all in my head and I really should get over it.  However, I struggle (even if it’s just a little) during the summer months.

I’ve recently blogged about my panic disorder and summertime is when I wrestle the most with panic attacks.  They stem from childhood incidents and are just something I have always had to contend with.

This summer I’m hoping I will take a detour from the norm and take a different path.

I’ve heard it said that the best way to ward of a nervous breakdown is to help someone else.  That is exactly what I’ll be doing this summer.

My mom will be staying with me for the next several weeks and I will be her constant caretaker, as she has Alzheimer’s.   This alone will place someone else above myself (always a good thing) and fend off the fear that assails me and throws me into a tailspin of anxiety (woohoo…even better).

Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 1Corinthians 10:24

Regardless of my anxiety about summer…I’m REALLY excited about mom’s visit.

I haven’t seen her in a year and I’m ready to hear her laughter and see her smile.  She is an amazing lady and such a joy to be around even if you are answering the same questions 1000 times a day.  We took care of her for three months last year and it was such a blessing to the entire family.

WOW!  God sure does bless us even in the midst of crisis!!  Thank you, God!

Actually, the main help I’m going to receive this summer is from God.  Diving into His Word and taking breaks to talk with Him always will give me the peace I seek.

It’s a huge relief to know that He’s got my life covered and He will use me as He sees fit.  This is an enormous weight off of my back because it takes the pressure off of ME and puts the glory on HIM!

I just have to remember to do this on a moment by moment basis!!! Easier said than done.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:11-12

So, whatever you think about summertime – I hope you will place God in charge and know His Peace!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 12:20 – Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy.

I am so proud of the Morgan Girls. It is not easy being a caretaker. God will be with you Meg. I will be praying for you.
