Preparation

IMG_0398Have you ever gotten caught in the middle of a torrential downpour? Earthquake? Tornado? Hurricane? Tsunami? Volcano?

These scariest of natural phenomena’s can come without warning and some can even change our lives forever.  Many of them can damage, kill, injure and destroy anything that is in their path.  The sheer magnitude of their strength can make the mightiest of men weak at the knees.

All you have to do is look at videos from the 2004 Tsunami to know how fast catastrophes can occur and how at one moment we can be happily going along and then…SLAM.  It’s over.

Preparation for one of these disasters is the key.

Makes sense, right?  Uh…yea.

Then why aren’t more of us preparing for our impending deaths?  You do know that none of us are getting out of here alive, right?

All joking aside, how many of us are actually living like we were dying today?  How many have truly learned to number their days so that they are ready and prepared to meet their maker?  How many of us would be okay with dying right now?

I would dare say that most of us are not even close to anything resembling being prepared.

Now, I’m not talking about a stash of water in the closet and a bunker in the basement.   I am talking about being satisfied with what you’ve done in life up till now and knowing that you’ve done your best and are willing the face the music of judgment day.

Sheesh!!  It’s hard to think about it like this, but once the curtain has dropped…it’s done, gone and over.

With the death of my dad, father-in-law, two friends from cancer, four friend’s children’s deaths, and more; I have had sufficient experiences to understand how quickly death can steal a life.

Not that I’m walking around all hum-drum because death is right around the corner, but I can bet your bippy that I’ve lived fuller and more joyful in the last few years than I have ever in my entire life.

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:6

I’m done wasting time.  That’s why I’m spending so much time preparing.

What do you mean, Meg?

  1. I’m preparing my heart by growing closer to God.
  2. I’m preparing my soul by getting to know Jesus better.
  3. I’m preparing my mind by living out my purpose by using my gifts and talents.
  4. I’m preparing my family by teaching them the value of Godly living.
  5. I’m preparing my legacy by living a life that means something.

I don’t want to die with regrets.  I don’t want to die ashamed.  I don’t want to die without having served God’s purpose.  And I don’t want to die without having pleased God by my works.

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1Peter 2:24

I’m not working to get into Heaven, but I am working to please God.  I’m living to make Him proud of the life in me He created.  I’m working and living to show God how much I love Him.

“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1Corinthians 15:55-57

Are you prepared?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 21:3 – To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

We should live like we are dying, meaning to go out and enjoy our life to the fullest doing God’s work and enjoying our friends in Christ.

Loved the laugh In reference. What is a bippy.
