Heaven’s Birthday

SCAN0014I just can’t let this week get by without talking about one of my all-time favorite people who had her first birthday in heaven last week.

Susan Birdsong has spent the last year hanging with God, Jesus and others – while the rest of us have continued to struggle, work, sin and try to make sense of our lives here on Earth.  I’m pretty sure she’s had a better year than we have!!!

But, man oh man, do we miss her!

Death stinks.

I wish it were different, but it’s not.  However, as a Christian I have the hope of Jesus Christ and the knowledge that my life today is just a journey and that the true destination can only come through death.

For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. Romans 14:8

So, in her memory, I’m re-posting my “She’s More Than Cancer” because Susan Birdsong was definitely more than any disease could ever think of defining her!!!  I love you, Susan!!!

She’s a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend

She’s a wife and a lover with a heart on the mend

It’s been broken, you see, by an ugly old ass

Don’t mean to offend.  Don’t mean to be crass

It’s cancer, this thief, which takes young and old

Touches its claws on the meek and the bold

Comes out of the dark and cuts like a knife

Bloodies and breaks, trying to shatter her life

She struggles to escape the shock of her plight

She races to be free of this horror and fright

The battle is on.  Make no mistake

There’s no way in hell, her soul, will it take

The more that she hears, the madder she gets

What do you mean?  She can’t keep her breasts?

Oh goodness, you say, you think it might spread

Will she end up with cancer from toes to her head?

Cancer started this war, but will not succeed

Chains cannot bind a heart that’s been freed

She can laugh, she can tease, she can love, she can shout

She will fight all the way without any doubt

Her family deserves the best that she’s got

Refusing to fail, she’ll give all things a shot

There’s many like her who’ve gone down this road

God’s courage and strength help her carry her load

Her life is much more than a disease in her chest

She’s living today, let’s forget all the rest

God only knows where her story might end

Today she will smile, surrounded by the love of her friends.

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 14:32 – The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing, but the righteous finds refuge in his death.

In the word it says we should cary when a child is born and rejoice when they die!, We are born into sin in the this world, when we die, if we have lived a Godly live we will be reunited with him and live forever with love and joy. We can take comfort in knowing this! The ones that have gone on ahead are free, its the ones that are still here that we have to worry abt! to be absent from this world is to be present with the Lord!
