Cleaning House

ID-100114831Housecleaning is one of those mundane chores that have to be done on a daily basis or else your house will end up looking like a complete disaster.  Trust me. ..I know.

There is no getting away from the day in and day out activities of picking up clothes, putting away toys, emptying garbage baskets, washing dishes, making beds and clearing out the clutter.  And, oh, how I wish there was an alternative!!  I love a clean house, but I can’t stand the ‘cleaning’ part!!  Jeepers!

Honestly, some days I am better than others.  However, left for too many days, my house becomes a dreadful dwelling of disorder – not to mention the complaining that begins from other members of the household.  Sigh.

Cleaning our home on a regular basis is comparable to maintaining our spirit.  When we neglect our spirit, we allow chaos to reign our soul and with such disarray comes calamity.

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 2Peter 1:5-7

Choosing to follow Jesus isn’t the end all be all…it’s just the beginning.  In fact, after we have turned our lives over to the Heavenly Father, the real work gets under way.

What work? You ask…

  1. Go out and make disciples (Matthew 28:19)
  2. Change our habits (Romans 12:2)
  3. Seek the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33)
  4. Confess and pray (James 5:16)
  5. Read scripture (Joshua 1:8)
  6. Do good (James 2:14)
  7. And the list goes on and on!!!

Okay.  When you think of the number of things that we could, should or would be doing if we had the time, it is VERY overwhelming!  Geez!  I can’t find the time to get out of my pajamas some days!  (One of the perils of working from home!!!)

The key to keeping our souls spic and span is to take action on a daily basis.  Waiting to clean house only every now and again causes our homes to collects dust, dirt and clutter.  The same thing happens to our spirits.

When we fail to maintain our spirits we become filled with the world’s litter instead of God’s Peace.  We become distracted by the list of to do’s instead of living out God’s Glory.  We lay in our own bed of regret instead of flying high on the love of Jesus and what that really means TODAY and to our eternal existence.

Clearly, leading a Christian life ain’t easy, but what life is?  Plus, the rewards are immeasurable.

We seem to forget that God has a plan for us and most importantly that God loves us.  Moreover, not one of us would ever ask our children to build a house in one day – why would we think that God intends for us to do all of our work in one day, either?

He wouldn’t.

Taking a step for God each day will not only keep us in tuned with God’s Will, but will also grow our faith and lead us to where God wants us to be in the long run.

So, please, please, please don’t get overwhelmed and discouraged with where you are today.

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26

God is amazing and anything is possible with Him!!

SO, get a broom (the Bible) and sweep your spirit just a little every day and watch His miracles happen in your life and notice how ‘clean’ your spirit is to boot!!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 11:27 – Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor, but evil comes to him who searches for it.

Well said. Even though we have been “Washed in the Blood… the Soul cleansing Blood of the Lamb”, this place can still become a real mess sometimes! It only gets dirtier if we have a coating of dust on our bibles. No better time than the present to clean house.
