Wisdom

ID-10061467Since last week I wrote about commitment, I thought it would only be fair that today I expand upon the topic of ‘wisdom’ because I really don’t think we can make, much less follow through with commitments, goals, objectives or resolutions unless we are fueled by wisdom.

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:15-17

The above verse about sums it up…if we aren’t wise with our time or resources, we will end up at a dead end.  Don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be foolish or stuck in a rut.

Sadly, a rut is exactly where we find ourselves all too often.

Our tendency as humans is to think we have more time and this is just not the case.  Today is truly all we have and even at that, we don’t know if we will make it through the day!!  SO true.

Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. James 4:14

The length of time we have in life is unknown, so if we aren’t making the most of it, then we are just wasting time and that is NOT being wise.

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

I could quote scripture all day long about wisdom because it is talked about A LOT (especially in Proverbs – check it out).

Clearly, God is trying to tell us something!!!  Wisdom must be something we should work towards and most certainly, ask God for.

Wisdom can come with age and experience, yet we need to ask God for His Wisdom so that we can choose the correct path to walk and the right actions to take.

Of course, if it was easy…everyone would be WISE.  Look around, that is definitely not the case!

In fact, when I look at my own past I find many times when I was downright dumb.  My future does not have to have the same outcome.  However, I can’t keep hitting my head against the same brick wall and expect it to be different this time.

So, how can we become wiser in 2014?

  1. Commit to making changes.
  2. Stop using excuses and start taking steps.
  3. Begin each day with God and ask Him to lead the way.

Excuses are signs of the underlying fear we have of the unknown future.  The problem is that no matter what we do or don’t do, tomorrow will still come.

The question therefore lies with where do you want to be tomorrow?

Personally, the same place as I am today is not good enough anymore.  Plus, if tomorrow doesn’t come, I want to be able to say I did my best today and being stuck in a rut is simply not my best.

Like everything else, wisdom doesn’t magically appear.  It takes time, effort and commitment to make the changes necessary for improvement and success.

Don’t settle for regrets…get going TODAY!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 3:13-18 – Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
