Choosing

ID-10035554Wednesday morning I did something that I never get to do…I sat on the couch drinking coffee and watched Kelly & Michael.  Oooooh!  It was fabulous!

Emma Thompson was featured and she was talking about her new movie, Saving Mr. Banks, where she plays this nasty woman who is hateful to just about everyone she meets.

As she was explaining the basis of the movie and the character she plays, Ms. Thompson said something that hit a chord with me, “It’s about choosing to heal your inner wounds.”

Hmmm.

Everyone has gone through some sort of painful experience in their life.  Some more heinous than others, but pain is pain no matter what someone else thinks.

However, when we suffer through the worst of life, but choose to live a life of love anyway, aren’t we then truly living?

Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. 1Peter 4:19

Let’s be very clear, I am not minimizing any painful experience because life can be horrible, disgusting and downright unfair.

What I am saying is that we can take the power BACK from the perpetrator or incident and CHOOSE TO HEAL.

Personally, I don’t think we can do this on our own.  In fact, I believe:

  1. God is the only One who can heal our pain and make us whole.
  2. God can use our heartache for His Glory and fill the holes in our souls in the process.
  3. God can lead us through the darkness with steady footing all the while wrapping His arms around our fragile selves.

We cannot heal our inner wounds, but we can choose to ask God to do it for us.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.  Psalms 147:3

I wish healing the wounds no one else can see was easy.  I wish they healed as fast as a paper cut or even a broken arm.  I really wish there was no pain and suffering in the world.

My wishes will not come true until the end of time, but until then I securely place my trust in the One who heals us for all of eternity.

What can you do to help someone in pain?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 4:20-22 – My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.
