Quality Shoes…uh, Living!

I love shoes.  I love ALL kinds of shoes.  They can be strappy, sexy, open-toed, suede, leather, cheap, expensive, platform, flat, tennis shoes, boots, sandals, slip on, lace up or buckled…it makes no difference to me.

Typically, I buy brown or black shoes, but I would take just about any color in the rainbow.  In fact, if I could have an entire closet filled with only shoes, I would be a very happy lady.

Sadly, my love for shoes will get me nowhere in life.  Sigh.

Have you ever noticed how once you get something you’ve wished for, worked for or wanted for a long time…the shiny newness wears off quicker than you can say, thank you?  A perfect pair of shoes only stays perfect for so long until I see the next PERFECT pair of shoes!!!

Clearly, ‘things’ don’t cut it in this life.

On the flip side, the ‘things’ that last the longest are love, friendship, faith and wisdom.  These characteristics mark the true wealth of a person and without them…we fade as fast as last season’s Manolo Blahniks stuck in a mud puddle.

Many times we get caught up in the gathering part of life and don’t spend nearly enough time on the quality part of life…and by quality, I mean working on loving others, making friends, developing our faith and cultivating our wisdom.

These four important characteristics get shoved aside for a new car, a better job or an awesome shoe closet!!

Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, … Philippians 2:2-8

God didn’t intend for us to journey through life missing out on His blessings or His gifts.  However, He does expect us to use what we have for His Glory and to place more emphasis on people, rather than stuff.

Certainly, it is difficult to get out of our selfishness and self-centeredness, but it is well worth the effort because when we seek to please the Heavenly Father, we in return, will live a quality life FULL of His miracles.  Funny how that works!

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24

God knows we are human.  God knows we struggle with obedience and altruism.  AND He doesn’t expect us to get this on our own.  He will guide us, help us and show us the way if we will ask for His hand and let go of our stuff.

Yep.  It’s hard.  Who wants to give up those hot new boots at Nordstorm’s?

Better yet, who wants to miss out on the Father’s blessings because we are too obsessed with getting what we want?

Quality living will come when we sacrifice our wants for God’s desires.

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Hebrews 13:15-16

Letting go is the hardest part because we want control.  But, when we do give up our ways for God’s, the rewards are unimaginable.

Take time today to figure out what is standing in your way to quality living!!!
