Struggling in the Stillness

Sunday was an amazing day! Even though the day didn’t start as I had planned because I slept through the alarm and never made it to church, it ended up being filled with fun, sun and friends. No complaints here and I am thankful to have been blessed in spite of my mistake!!!

As I lay in bed that night, I started to wonder if I should feel bad because I was so happy.

Sounds strange, but when I’m truly happy there is a part of me that feels guilty because there are so many suffering in this world.  In addition, I began to worry about getting too comfortable in my happiness because something bad might happen.

Talk about sabotaging yourself!!  WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. Psalm 16:9

The security that is spoken here in Psalms is not made my man…it is the security that God will lead us through trials of this world and promises eternal life with Him if we believe in His Son.

Sure, it’s wonderful to know that I have protection from the Heavenly Father, but how do I keep myself from having a downright panic attack as I am assured to have trials in life?

Okay, the panic thing is something I have dealt with since the third grade and that problem of mine is worthy of a book, as I have wrestled with this issue more than I’d like to admit.

However, I’m learning little by little that staying amid worry, fear and anxiety is NOT where God wants me to be…much less stay.

Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1Peter 5:7

Yep. God cares about little ole’ me and YOU.

There will always be problems, trials, tribulations, difficulties, tragedies, obstacles, setbacks and troubles.  BUT, God says that today we should rely on Him and know that we can have peace beyond human understanding if we cast our cares on Him. (See Philippians 4:6-7.)

So….

  1. If you are happy today – ENJOY IT
  2. If you are hurting today – KNOW GOD WILL LEAD YOU THROUGH
  3. If you want to know how to truly live  – GET TO KNOW GOD

Basically, today I decided to enjoy my happiness. Tomorrow may bring something else, but in the meantime I’m taking great pleasure in God’s world made just for you and me!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 13:9 – The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked will be put out.
