WA, WA, WA…WHAT?

rainbowOkay, you know you are getting a revolting phone call when you hear the school nurse start the conversation with, “Meg, I’m so sorry that I have to tell you this….”

WA, WA, WA…WHAT did you say?!?

Chase has lice.

Uh…so does Jake.

Crap.

Well, the good news is…hm…there is no good news here.  Sigh.

Obviously, I spent the rest of my day cleaning everything that I could stuff into my washing machine. And if it didn’t fit, I did everything but light a match to it. Of course, I couldn’t do that to Jake and Chase, so we all but shaved their heads, treated their hair with lice killer and combed out every nasty, disgusting nit.

Oh, the pleasures of parenthood!

Just makes your head itch, doesn’t it?

That night I went to bed exhausted, cranky and altogether weary. It had been a rough day from the get-go and it was one of those days that just would not end.

As I lay in bed, I thought about how sorry I felt for myself, how tired I was and how life wasn’t nice sometimes. Then I stopped.

Don’t know about you, but sometimes I can feel God’s presence and I can sense a big lesson coming.

Where’s your gratitude, Meg? Where’s your joy, Meg? Where’s your peace, Meg?

Yep, all in about two seconds, I got an enormous attitude adjustment from the Big Man upstairs.

I realized that I am grateful that I have the energy and wherewithal to clean like a madwoman. I am ecstatic that I have two healthy albeit licey (don’t think that is a word) boys to take care of. AND, I just survived a day of chaos, unpleasantness and downright ickiness.

There’s got to be a message in here somewhere.

This is life. It’s full of the good, bad and the ugly. There is trauma, drama and a whole lot of in-betweens. Life gets messy. Life doesn’t always feel good. And it doesn’t necessarily go our way.

BUT…and it’s a big one, WE CONTROL OUR ATTITUDE ABOUT IT.

All too often, we act like ‘poor me’ when we should be screaming at the top of our lungs that we are thankful to live another day and know the ONE who gives us life.

Our knees should be scabby from the many prayers we say and the many bows we make before our precious Lord.

We live another day (good, bad or ugly) because HE gives it to us.

This the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

After I recognized my pity party attitude…my day got a whole lot better and I slept like a baby; satisfied, content, peaceful and most of all GRATEFUL.

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 14:32 – When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge.
