Encouragement

When I started blogging these GEMs over a year ago, I was on a mission to spread a little encouragement to help others while using my gift of writing.  Much to my surprise I think I’ve been encouraged the MOST!

I have been amazed by the outpouring of support, enthusiasm and cheer I have received from best of friends and people I’ve never even met before.  Words cannot capture how blessed I feel for being used as a servant of Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, our world is riddled with negativity, hatred, evil and dissention.  And sadly, we can go days in our own little piece of real estate and never venture towards the light.  So, to hear a cheerful word really IS refreshing.

All of us need a renewal of spirit on a regular basis.  The best part is that we can be refueled not only by receiving encouragement by others, but we can get it by GIVING encouragement, as well.  What a nifty idea!  I love how God works!!!

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shown in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2Corinthians 4:6

Did you hear that?  We have the LIGHT within us.  We just have to let it shine. (Think there is a song about that!)

Think about how much junk we feed our brains through television, movies, computers and Ipads.  I know that every time I turn one of those on in my house I get a plethora of bad news.  Where is the abundance of GOOD NEWS?

Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. 1John 2:6

Have we become so cynical that we don’t even think good news is real? Or possible?   Are we so self-centered that we have forgotten to treat others the way we would like to be treated?

We don’t have to stay in this rut.

Nope, we have the power to change our attitude, outlook and help the person next to us. (Or someone on the other side of the world…thank you internet!)

Encouragement is needed.  Encouragement can change you and the person you give it to. And encouragement is what we are called to do by a God who gave us a huge book to encourage us as often as we read it!

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:13

Don’t waste another minute!  Give someone the gift of your support, love and uplifting words.  It could change their life and YOURS!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 25:11 – A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.

Thank you for all of the encouragement that you have given me over the last 6 months since I subbed. It is great to be able to hear from others in their journey to follow Christ. Many of the books that Paul wrote in the bible we’re just what you are doing. They were letters to Christ followers / ministers of the early church and encouragement to stay strong in their faith and stay true to Christ’s words and commandments. Encouraging is as important today as ever and serves to grow and mature followers. It is the essance of Paul’s discussions of the Body of Christ. I know that God will bless you for your obedience to this calling.
