Trust What?

Late at night, do you ever ponder the vastness of the universe and wonder why you were created?   In the past, I would think of the enormity of this question and my palms would get sweaty and I would start to panic – BIG TIME!

These days, I hear the calm assurance of my heart telling me to chill out and trust.  Whew….

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him.  But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”  John 14:16-17

I’m sure many would argue that I’ve chosen to follow Christ because I was raised in this religion and I don’t know much about anything else.  My answer to them would be that they are partly right and partly wrong.

I don’t believe in the existence of God and His plan to save the world through His son, Jesus Christ, because my parents do.  I could give you a list of reasons why I would never want to choose this religion because of the lack of ability to be selfish – Lord knows I love to be selfish!!!

I believe because I’ve had a first-hand experience that continues to change my life.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” Psalms 19:1

What is this experience, you ask?  It’s God’s constant pursuit of little ole’ me.

I’ve lived a lifetime of playing the rebel, sitting on the fence and out-right doing what I want.  All the while, God has pressed on my heart to be loving, kind and obedient to His scriptures.  He has always been in my heart and my head pushing me to be HIS.

Now why in the world would a fun-loving, partying, playgirl like me want to follow the ancient scriptures of a time long ago?  Well, it’s just an overwhelming feeling of knowing that this is my path and that I need to share the good news with others.

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

I have been blessed my entire life with the gift of faith.  As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how absolutely fortunate I am to have this awesome gift.  It provides a security that is found nowhere else (don’t think I haven’t looked around for other things.)

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”  Hebrews 11:1-3

What’s interesting is that when I finally stopped fighting God and chose to COMPLETELY hand over my life to Him, I really started living.  I’ve been happier, calmer, kinder and all-around better because of the security in my belief.  Plus, I have been rewarded monumentally with a peace that I have never known – even during the worst times of my life (a.k.a. deaths, financial issues, etc.)

This peace makes me want to shout from the mountain tops and tell everyone I come in contact with that God is SO awesome and Jesus is our friend.

Plus, the reason I know this transformation is God-driven is because I don’t care if anyone else thinks I’m a freak (and that says a lot coming from a HUGE people-pleaser!)

Do not misunderstand – I still sin and I still struggle, BUT I have the help of a God who loves me, all the while pressing me to grow, mature and improve!

I guess my goal, today, is to encourage you to seek God.

Obviously, there are many excuses NOT to believe in God and His son, Jesus Christ.  However, I urge you to do some research on your own and figure it out for yourself (check out writings by C.S. Lewis, Marilyn Adamson, Paul Little, Max Lucado, Francis Chan and many more.)  What you find might surprise you.

“Believe me (Jesus Christ) when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.” John 14:11

“Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!” Psalms 40:4

I pray that you will give God a chance to change your life, too.

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
