Easter – Death’s Defeat

Easter is much more than bunnies, baskets, colorful eggs and chocolate candies!  Sure those M&M’s and Peeps are excellent to savor on Sunday morning, but the true meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ’s defeat of DEATH!

The delectableness of the candy cannot compare to the sweetness of the sacrifice made by our Savior, Jesus Christ.  He chose to hang on that cross even while we were still sinners!  He could have saved himself, but He preferred to save US!  WOW!  Gives me chills just thinking about it!

However, the Lord knows I am far from worthy!

I read recently (have no clue where) that God didn’t make people who would reject Him…He made people who COULD reject Him.  I love this statement because I’ve often wondered why in the world God would make humans when all we were going to do is disappoint Him.

The cool realization I’ve found is that right after Eve fell for the serpent’s shenanigans and gave Adam the apple, God said, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel.”  Genesis 3:15

God, true to His Word, sent Jesus Christ to crush the devil and defeat death!  “He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning.  The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”  1John 3:8

How awesome!  God made us with free will, but loved us enough to have an alternate plan in case we were stupid enough to go our own way!

The resurrection of Jesus Christ proclaims such an abundant love that I can hardly even fathom it!  God’s love abounds through His sacrifice to come into the world to suffer and die for us.

According to my pastor, “…Easter is not just about springtime and flowers and bunnies and eggs.  Nor is it a ‘happily ever after’ time.  It is not a denial of death or suffering.  Rather, it is a celebration of God’s victory over death and destruction.  It is a promise that beyond life’s best, and worst, beyond even death, God has something much more wonderful in mind for us.  It is a joy that even shines through grief.”  (LOVE THIS)

With the passing of my father and father-in-law over a year ago, I have been given a new understanding how urgent it is to live out my faith TODAY because tomorrow may never come.  God has given me the joy of helping others and using my gifts that I don’t think I would have ever been brave enough to do without the experience of suffering in those two situations.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ indicates to me that we were not meant for this world.  I have a longing to please God, be with God and show others the love that God has given me.

Death was not the end of Jesus Christ and it will not be the end of me.  It will just be the beginning!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 18:16 – A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.
