Dancing

I love to dance.  My mother-in-law loves to watch Dancing with the Stars.  We make quite a pair when we sit down to watch an episode.  She adores the costumes and shoes and I have to sit on my legs to keep myself from jumping off the couch whenever a fast tune twirls the dancers around the floor.

Dancing is fun to watch and exhilarating to participate in!

I like to dance so much that I instituted an activity called ‘dance party’ when my boys were toddlers.  It entailed loud music and a large space to shake our groove thangs!   We have a ball!  We jiggle, jangle and jump throughout the living room until we are exhausted and giggling from the entertainment of each others’ AMAZING and CREATIVE dance moves!

Our dancing is not Dancing with the Stars worthy.  In fact, we do more crashing and falling then we do dancing most of time!  What a difference a lead dancer and a little instruction would make!!!

Such is life.

We tumble and stumble through our days and waste our time making up our own rules and regulations by standards that come and go as quickly as ice cream melts on an August day in Austin, Texas.  We disregard the prodding and tugging going on in our hearts because we are too busy doing life OUR WAY.

What if we turned our life to the One who can lead us in this dance of life?  What if we trusted Him to turn our disjointed moves into smooth, elegant strides that, when completed, make a beautiful dance?  He can, you know.  We just have to hand over the reins and ask Him to take the lead.

This is so much easier said than done.  I struggle daily with giving God EVERYTHING.  Sure, I can go to church, pray and read the Bible.  But, do I give God the good, bad and ugly?  Do I allow Him to guide each step with His words, His path and His love intertwined in all things?  Hmmm, no.

Like many, I give God my life, then I take it back, then I give it to Him, and then I take it back, again.  How does one jump off the rollercoaster and settle into the arms of our Lord?

  1. Focus – Matthew 6:33-34, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  Focus on God and everything else will fall into place.  God tells us not to worry about tomorrow, but to trust Him to fulfill our needs today.
  2. Pray – Luke 5:16, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”  Jesus is our example and He prayed OFTEN.  Shouldn’t we do the same?
  3. Re-focus – Ephesians 5:1-2, “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”  We have to re-focus daily.  The more we do it, the easier it gets.

God surely loves us.  He sent His son to save us from our sins so that we could dance with Him for eternity.  That is great news!!!

The dance of life is a process and some of the moves are painful or difficult.  However, look closely and see God leading us with a gentle, yet strong hand as we boogie around the worldly dance floor.

God may guide you through a waltz – slow and steady.  Or He might have you doing the twist where all body parts are moving in different directions at the same time!  The salsa happens to be my favorite, but requires loads of energy and concentration!!!

Whatever the dance may be…do you allow God to be the lead and you follow His steps?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 25:28 – Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.

I love this post!! I picture myself (even at my age) standing on God’s feet and Him twirling us around the dance floor. He of course is leading while I am laughing and enjoying the ride! (The cool thing is- even I can dance gracefully when led this way!! Ok! Yes, I’ll admit that when I lead, the word gracefull isn’t used to decribe my dancing) Love ya girl!! 🙂

I love this one too! I’ve never been accused of having rhythm, so my feet are on God’s feet too! So glad he has big feet for all of us!

Whew! Not much rhythm here either! 🙂 But I love this post. I’ve always wanted to dance. Love the idea of God inviting us and leading us in the dance.
