On Tuesday, I asked the question, “What does your relationship with Jesus look like?”  Have you thought about it?  Have you talked with Jesus to ask Him what it should look like?

The twenty questions could go on forever, but today I want to narrow in on actually what loving Jesus looks like for you.

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 1John 3:18

Loving Jesus should be very much like loving those we love here on earth.  Even though Jesus is out of sight, it does not mean He should be out of mind.

If my husband didn’t talk to me or only wanted something from me when he did talk to me, never remembered my birthday and if he did remember he asked me what his gift was…well, I can tell you it would not be pretty.

That’s when Jeff Dunham’s puppet’s line, “I kill you,” would get very personal in my house!!

Can you imagine how Jesus and God feel?

Jesus is not a Vegas slot machine, where you place your bet and hope to hit the jackpot.

You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. James 4:3

Loving Jesus should be the first thing you do when you wake up and the last thing you do before you fall asleep each day.  We are here for God’s Glory, so loving His Son  is of utmost importance because Jesus took our place on the cross.

Here are a few ways to love Jesus:

  1. Talk to Jesus.  Tell Him worries, praises, excitements, needs, fears and basically EVERYTHING.
  2. Listen to Jesus.  Jesus often went to a quiet place away from the others to listen and talk to God.  Developing a relationship is how we get to know one another.
  3. Give Jesus gifts.  Offer your time, talents, gifts and money to His purpose.  He doesn’t require anything, but we often spend money on those we love.
  4. Get to know Jesus better.  Read the Bible to find out more about Him, who He was, what He did, what He thought about stuff, why He came and how He feels about you.
  5. Do what He asks you to do.
    1. Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me. John 14:23-24
    2. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

Loving Jesus takes action, commitment, wisdom and choice.  If we waver in any one of these, we are falling short of having the greatest relationship we could ever possibly have on earth.

Keeping an eternal perspective will help up remember to stay close to Jesus and place our life in God’s almighty and generous grace.

Our God is a jealous God (see Exodus 20:4-5).  He wants nothing above Him and He wants us to lean on Him for all things past, present and future.  So, loving Jesus is placing us on the right path to living a life fully committed to our Heavenly Father.

Sure, we will make mistakes, but our efforts will be well worth more than any treasure we could find on earth.

How do you love Jesus?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 8:19 – I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
