No Defense Will Do

photo (2)Some days just don’t turn out like you think they should.  Today is one of those days.

I have a very sick boy who has the flu and is having an asthma attack every time I turn around.  Pretty scary stuff.

The worst part is that this kiddo is just like his momma when she is sick…lots of wailing, moaning and crying.  Eek!

I’ve decided it doesn’t matter how many times we wash our hands, stay away from sick people or pop Vitamin C – no defense will do.

Huh….

This reminds me of everyday life as a child of God. We can be the best people we know how to be, but in the end there is no defense that we try will allow us to escape the reality that we are SICK.

However, Jesus is akin to antibiotics.  He has the POWER TO SAVE US FROM MISERY.  Now that is some great news!!

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1Peter 2:24

What’s interesting is that so many people have a tendency to say, “Well, if I can’t keep from being perfect then I won’t even try.”

Think about this for a second.  Would we stop washing our hands because we know it might not save us from getting the flu anyway?

Of course not!  Not only is that absolutely disgusting, but I would dare say we save ourselves from much worse harm by following these simple and doable health instructions.

God loves us.  He set up parameters because He desires us to live freely and abundantly – just like human parents do for our own children.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him…. 1John 2:1-11

I, for one, don’t make up rules for my kids because I don’t want them to have fun (even though they might think this, it is really not true).  Instead, I set up guidelines because I don’t want them to get hurt or I want them to learn so that they can be healthy, happy, productive adults someday.

God really isn’t much different…just on a much bigger and much better scale.

It’s important we realize why we should follow God and get to know Jesus.  Not just for a ticket into heaven, but because we can do His Will on Earth today!  We can start spreading a little ‘heaven on earth’ today if we will just do what God asks of us and look to Him for guidance.

As simple as it sounds, we all get off track easily and often.  This is where repentance and forgiveness comes in (thank you, God).

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

So, let’s wash our hands in the blood of Christ, let’s stay away from evil and temptation, and let’s pop the pills of God’s Word daily to keep the sickness of the world at bay!!!

Stay healthy, my friends!!!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 28:13 – Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
