Thinking Straight

088Have you ever found yourself at a crossroads with no idea which way to head?  Have you been bombarded with tasks, appointments, and projects then realize there is no way you can possibly complete all of them…but which ones do you give the boot and which ones should you do?

You are far from alone!

Life should not be a constant tumultuous ride of confusion and uncertainty.  Sometimes it might feel this way, but we should never stay in this position for long.

For God is not a God of confusion but of peace…. 1Corinthians 14:33

So, what does this mean and how in the world are we supposed to accomplish it??

God gives us many ways to interpret His will for our lives.  My three favorite are:

  1. The Bible – gives us direction, examples and comfort.
  2. The Holy Spirit – gives us help and guidance.
  3. Prayer – gives us a direct path to God who can fix everything.  (Now, that’s what I’m talking about!!)

The Bible, Holy Spirit and Prayer are all gifts from God, but it is up to us to ACCEPT them and USE them in our lives.

For example, I can have a gourmet kitchen with every meat, veggie, fruit, spice and condiment known to man, but if I don’t get my butt in there and cook…I will not eat and the gourmet kitchen does me no good!!!  (My husband would say I actually have this problem…hee, hee!)

The fact is that just because God gives us these gifts; it is still our responsibility to actually do something with them.

The Bible can sit on the shelf and collect dust or I can read it often and glean knowledge from it.  The Holy Spirit can live in my heart, but if I don’t listen to Him or take His advice, I will be no better off.  I can talk to God at any moment of the day, but if I don’t do it I will never get to know Him better.

For the most part, I think our heads are screwed on wrong most of the time.  Sigh.

We can’t seem to get it through our thick skulls that God wants the best for us, but we have to FOLLOW HIM in order to get to the good stuff!!  We can’t just follow Him if He’s going to Hawaii; we have to go when He takes a path through a swamp or desert, too!!!

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions…. 2Timothy 4:3

Listen to the Bible, listen for the leading of the Holy Spirit and listen when you pray to God.  His path is narrow and it’s not always easy.  But again, He is not a God of confusion.

Actually, God is pretty straightforward.

If you love me, you will keep my commandments.  John 14:15

Now that’s thinking straight!!

Also, be very careful not to get into a habit of thinking that God is okay with our sinful selves…He’s not.  He loves us all and wants us to be with Him, but He also loves us enough not to force Himself on us.

That’s what free will is all about!  What are you choosing??

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 24:16 – For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.
