Spring Break

IMG_0247It’s been hard getting back into the swing of things after last week’s spring break and time change.  I think I would have been just fine had we not ‘sprung forward’ and lost an hour, but I am extremely grateful that it happened on a week we could sleep in!!

The week flew by for me and my boys as we stayed up late, watched movies, swam in heated pools, had sleepovers, went ice skating, enjoyed a day at the rodeo and visited Fiesta Texas.  It was a fun-filled week and a much needed break from the hectic school and activity schedule we normally live by.

Even though nothing was really planned ahead of time, we filled our days with fun, friends and family.

Overall, it was an amazing week.

As I reviewed our list of comings and goings, I began to think of others who all too often don’t get a break from the humdrum of life.

The people I’m talking about are those enduring another round of chemo, those struggling with addiction, those living in third world countries, those dealing with tragedy, and the list goes on.

What broke my heart even further was the fact that many of those people have a better attitude than I do, are more joyful than I am and are more thankful for the things that really count…I stink.

Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. Philippians 2:14-15

The realization that I came to was that while we all have different gifts, talents, paychecks and life journeys…we ALL have the same God who uses us for His purpose.

He loves me.  He loves you. He wants us all to join His team no matter where we are in life or what we are dealing with.

Unfortunately, we tend to grow closer to God in the worst of times and forget about Him in the best of times. The truth is that we need God ALL OF THE TIME.

So, how can we BE and FEEL comforted no matter what is happening in our lives? Remember these scriptures….

  1. When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. Psalm 94:19
  2. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
  3. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12
  4. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3
  5. For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2Timothy 1:7
  6. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2Corinthians 1:3-4

Some days are awesome and some days are not, but ALL days are from God!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 17:22 – A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
