Moving On….

ID-10020142Here’s to the first GEM of 2014!  Woohoo!   We’ve made it this far and we are moving on!  (That’s me and God…in case you were confused about who the ‘we’ was!!)

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

The New Year gives us a unique opportunity to re-evaluate, make changes, change direction, add, subtract, stay put or move on.  We should do this more than just once a year to keep our attention on the prize – and those prizes can be many (i.e. get in shape, find a new job, give more, etc).

However, beware that you don’t make resolutions that you know you will never keep.  Lord knows that I tend to be grandiose when making my goals and objectives and I also seem to put God in a box and figure I will get what I get.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Luke 11:9

My pastor pointed out this past Sunday that it doesn’t say “you might find” or “it might be opened to you”.  It says “it will”.  That is a HUGE realization for many of us because it redefines how we should approach God.

Of course, we have to consider that we should be seeking God’s Will and not our own.  So asking to win the lottery so that I don’t have to ever lift a finger again is probably not gonna happen.  AH SHUCKS!

Here’s what we can do:

  1. Pray for God’s path for your life to be shown to you.
  2. Commit to be in God’s Will.
  3. Make a plan to take yourself from Point A to Point B.
  4. Take a step of faith and start your journey.

Keep in mind…if you fail to plan, you are already planning to fail.

Accomplishments, change and success don’t come to the lucky – they come to the hard working DOERS who take action instead of having a pity party because they thought they’d be at a different spot in their life right about now.

Don’t look at me…I don’t know ANYONE like that!!!  HAHAHA!

Big talkers, Betty Crockers go nowhere.  Those of us who seek only to satisfy our selfish desires end up nowhere, too.

C.S. Lewis said it best in his book, Mere Christianity, “God made us; invented us as a man invents an engine.  A car is made to run on Gasoline, and it would not run on anything else.  Now God designed the human machine to run on Himself.  He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on.  There is no other.  That is why it is just no good asking God to make us happy in our own way without bothering about religion.  God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.  There is no such thing.”

(Thanks to Nic Whitworth for giving me this quote!!!)

So, as we begin 2014, seek, ask, knock on God’s door and find out what God has in store for you in the coming year!!!

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 19:2 – Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.
