Quiet Time

Is your house sometimes too quiet?  Or are you at a loss for what you should be doing?  Worse yet, you feel unprepared for the day ahead?

Every now and then we find ourselves in a quiet place and I don’t know about you, but the silence can be deafening.  Busyness is often better because at least you understand expectations, goals and the ‘to do’ list.

Of course, quiet time is a great chance to recharge and regroup, but if the time is not spent sensibly than it truly becomes…wasted time.  I already do plenty of that!  What I need is a heavenly plan that will strategically get me to where I want to go – closer to the Lord!

Today has been one of those days.  Nothing was planned, nothing was on my calendar and essentially, I had nothing to do.  It intrigues me that I was essentially bored, but yet, often complain about not having enough time.  Grrr….

Basically, this unplanned day was my own fault because I should have looked at my calendar before the day arrived so that I could use my time wisely.  DUH.

What do you do when you find yourself in the quiet time?

Unfortunately, instead of going to God for His guidance, we look to our calendars and planners to see what we can do to fill up our days.  WHAT IS THAT?!?!?!  Following a schedule is NOT awful, but wasting time IS.

Be careful, then, how you live – not as the unwise but as the wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Ephesians 5:15-17

Sure, we can jam a list of things to do into an empty day.  However, I really think each day can be better if we stop trying to FILL them and instead tried to LIVE them according to God’s Will.

The sad truth is that we often create busyness to plug the holes in our agenda.  We create a master plan without consulting the Master and then we wonder why we are not being fulfilled.  It’s a never-ending cycle!!!

God has a purpose for all of us and each plan is unique to the individual.  We will not live out His goals if we aren’t walking hand-in-hand with Him.  Plus, we must stop comparing ourselves to others and start looking for direction and assistance from the One who actually KNOWS the plan!!

How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. Proverbs 6:9-11

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalms 90:12

We should all be living and doing our purpose each day, regardless of whether the days are hectic or restful.  The critical part is to ASK FOR GOD’S DIRECTION first because making God the priority will allow everything else to fall into place.

Procrastination and laziness just won’t cut it when our days truly are numbered and it only makes sense to make the best of each moment because they might be the last.

A spell of quiet time can provide the occasion to prioritize and redirect if we will look to the One who created time in the first place.

Therefore, enjoy your quiet time if you get it, but ask God HOW you should use it so you know you are using your time wisely!!

Each moment actually does, indeed, count!  How are you using yours?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 10:8 – The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.
