The GEMS We Leave Behind

“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:38

What color of water flows from your heart?  Is it clear and bright?  Or is it dark and murky?

More to the point, if you died today, will others have been blessed because you existed?  Will someone else’s soul spend eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because YOU showed them the way that leads to life?

Tough questions.  However, they are to be considered every morning we wake up breathing.

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:1-34

Living in obedience to God is not about showing others you are right: It’s about revealing the love of Christ that is available to EVERYONE. (See John 11:26)

We each have an opportunity to leave a legacy of love, kindness, hope, peace and joy that can come only from our Father in Heaven.

But all too often life gets in the way, we get too busy and ultimately, we make our life about ourselves instead of God.

This is not how the Almighty Father intended us to live.

So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10

We only get one life.  Are you creating your own GEMS to leave behind so that at the end of your life God will say to you, “Well done.”

Here are some questions to contemplate:

  1. Do you truly place God at the top of your priority list?
  2. Do you rely on God’s guidance to make decisions?
  3. Do you crave and depend on God’s presence in your life?

God creates the GEMS that last.  God produces a fruitful life out of nothing.  And He uses the weak to lead the strong.

We all have gifts given by God that we should be using for His glory.

Are you?

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 10:7 – The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
